a little intro

Hi! I’m Sylvi and I hand dye each of these colorful pieces in my backyard on the Central Coast in the sunshine usually while singing and dancing and loving each moment. I have always been captivated by color and its ability to brighten, energize, or calm a wild day. Creating colorful hand dyed pieces, from silk to linen to corduroy, has given me a way to share this sentiment with those around me. Each piece has its own world within it and captures a color wave of feeling. I hope that my art inspires others to surround themselves in the colors that make them feel their best and possibly like singing and dancing and loving each moment!

a little Story

I’m pretty sure I was told it was more expensive and a lot more work than other techniques but I was hooked and had already dyed my entire wardrobe so the obvious next step was to make a business of it. Impulsivity at its finest! And I had a feeling this curiosity for color mixing would be sticking around pushing me to complete the thought of what if I added a little more yellow dye?

a little More Story

Four years later here I am reflecting on this expensive and laborious process as I haul 250 lbs of ice across my yard to get my inventory ready for a festival or for the holiday markets. I like to think its all sunshine and backyard dance parties but when the procrastination arrives and I’m out under the moonlight with a headlight scooping ice onto each piece reality kicks in. My process is hard work and a bit grueling at times but in a way that I enjoy! At the end of the day I may not be literally dancing singing loving each moment but in my mind there is a little happy dance party going on because I’m doing what I love. I will always be following though on my ideas and musings and my what would happen if I added a little more yellow to that? I am endlessly grateful to friends and customers and customers turned friends that keep coming back to see what new color or piece or fabric I’ve begun to experiment with!
